Happy 45th Birthday Singapore!

Even as we celebrate our nation's birthday today, there is this sense of patriotism in me as I think of how fortunate I am to be raised and living in this country.

Just thought that I'd share this article I read on the Straits Times with all of you. It totally shares the same sentiments as me as we see that many people have "learnt the fine art of complaining about nearly everything in 140 characters or fewer". We seem to have people complaining about everything in this country, right from the "Give Way Lane" for the YOG to the new National Songs we have every year.

We never seem to be satisfied or contented with what we have. It's also a time for me to reflect and think upon my actions and words. Have I been complaining too much? "Instead of grappling with solutions, we seem content to reject advice, or not even offer it."

To quote from the article: "Today, we celebrate National Day as one united nation. But I do not think there is much to celebrate if we are just a united nation of complainers."

I do hope that those I teach do not grow up to be "whingers" but rather bold Singaporeans who would provide solutions and do something instead of whining.

New beginnings....

Hi all!

Welcome back to school! I hope all of you had an enjoyable holiday! As the title of this post says, "New Beginnings". Yes, indeed, it is a new beginning for me and my students as I teach two new classes this semester. To all the 3A and 3E students, all the best in the coming semester. Continue to work hard!

To start this new beginning, I have changed my blogskin. Nothing much to rave about but at least it's something new and decent! I'll update the blog soon!

Valentine's Day

Oh! And I forgot to mention that the first day of Chinese New Year is also Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day
(in advance) !!

Chinese New Year

I'm counting down to the Chinese New Year which is like 6 days away. Are you counting down to this festival too?

I just thought that maybe I can share some information on this festival.

Do you know other names for Chinese New Year? Some call it the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year and it lasts for 15 days which means that you can collect red packets for 15 days! Isn't that great? That's awesome for me because I'm still entitled to receive red packets! :)

On the eve of Chinese New Year, I'm sure your family will be gathering a reunion dinner and feast on those mouth-watering food. I can't wait for mine! I'll also be heading down to the River Hongbao at Marina Bay. It's my "tradition" to go there every year with my little cousins. Well, they're no longer little. I'll always stay till midnight where there will be a fireworks display. I just love watching fireworks. Do go down to Marina Bay if you are allowed to stay up late.

Well, that's all for now. We'll also be celebrating Chinese New Year in school. I hope you'll have a great time this weekend!

Cheers,
Miss Han
